The Meek are Strong

“Nothing is so strong as gentleness. Nothing is so gentle as real strength.”  -St. Francis de Sales
In our culture, a man's strength is associated with being assertive, uncompromising and tough--which are all good traits in their proper context.  Jesus said, Blessed are the meek, and though "meek" sounds like weak, it more accurately parallels strength.  A Biblically-strong man submits to authority.  He humbly asks for forgiveness, both from whom he wronged and with God.  He speaks with gentle words even when he disagrees.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5, NIV).
