“The high destiny of the individual is to serve rather than to rule.” -Albert Einstein
Jesus—the Son of God, the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Savior of the world and Creator of the universe—washed his disciples feet. The statement he made is vividly clear: “I’m here to serve.” In doing so, Jesus set the example for us to follow. What better model do we have than to follow his lead and serve? Start by serving your family and friends. Serve your community and church. Serve someone who can do nothing for you in return. When you do, just watch as your paradigm begins to shift from inward to outward and you start to see how the adage is true, “It’s a blessing to be a blessing.” When you live to give then God will give back to you.
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Luke 6:38, NIV).
