“Pound the rock.” –Tim Duncan
The bedridden prophet Elisha told King Jehoash to take a bow and shoot an arrow out the window (2 Kings 13). Jehoash shot and Elisha said he’d have victory over his enemy. Next Elisha told the king to take arrows and pound the ground. King Jehoash pounded the ground only three times to which Elisha said he would only be victorious against Israel’s enemies thrice. He explained that had the king pounded the ground five times then he’d had won a total victory over his enemy. It would be easy to think that Elisha was too harsh on the king, but Elisha saw that the king lacked faith. The lesson Jehoash learned is also true for me and you: the difference between victory and defeat is often just a little more faith. Keep pounding the ground and watch God come through for you.
We live by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7, ESV).
